The $153,000 Selfie: Don’t Try To Get a Photo With A Rattlesnake, Kids

A man in San Diego landed himself with a $153,000 hospital bill after trying to take a selfie with a rattlesnake.

Todd Fassler, who says he owned a pet rattlesnake for a year before setting it free, pulled a different snake from the bush for a quick snake selfie in early July. While he was perfecting the shot, it struck.

“My whole body was shaking and gyrating,“ he said. "He literally paralysed my whole body.

"My tongue was like out of my mouth, my eyes were off to the side.”

His entire arm went purple and it took two hospitals’ supplies of antivenom to save him. The whole ordeal left him with a total hospital bill of $153,161.25 (that’s around £98,500) and not even a decent selfie to show for it.

Fassler’s insurance company are currently in negotiations so it’s not clear yet how much Fassler himself will have to shell out.

So, what have we learned here? 1. Don’t take selfies with venomous snakes. 2. Don’t keep rattlesnakes in cool boxes. 3. Free healthcare is a wonderful thing.
