2 die in farm accident near Burstall, Sask.

Sask. RCMP search for remaining suspect after violent break-in last month

Two people, a 62-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy, died in a farm accident while unloading grain near Burstall, Sask., Monday.

RCMP said officers were sent to the accident, on a farm about 10 kilometres east of the community, around 6:30 p.m. CST.

They said that while emptying a dual hopper semi-grain trailer, the two — who were related — died.

RCMP did not elaborate on how they were related and were not releasing names.

However, the town's deputy mayor Tegan Bodnarchuk told the CBC they were grandfather and grandson.

Bodnarchuk described the town of 300 as "tight-knit" where everyone knows everyone else.

"Today is pretty much surreal," Bodnarchuk said. "It's shocking. It's obviously devastating."

Bodnarchuk declined to name the two victims, but said the grandfather was a "large volunteer member in our community, for many years various organizations, volunteer fire department, involved with various councils etc., and in general an excellent neighbour and friend."

While questions still linger as to how exactly the accident happened, Bodnarchuk said "I think the biggest thing is just to recognize it's a tragedy, and regardless of what actually happened, it's just you feel for the family and for all the close friends and neighbours."
