Two Ottawa residents and a Kingston, Ont., physicist will receive the Order of Ontario, the province's highest honour, it was announced Friday.
Suzanne Pinel, popularly known as "Marie-Soleil", and Nathalie Des Rosiers, head of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, are among 27 new appointees.
Respected Kingston physicist Arthur McDonald will also receive the Order of Ontario Jan. 26 from David C. Onley, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor.
Pinel is a well-recognized French-language educator and television personality. She has also been a citizenship judge since 1997.
Pinel is active in charity work, as well, including many events with the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Pinel also had a national bilingual show for about a decade and received the Order of Canada in 1991.
Des Rosiers is a legal expert who is best known for her work helping victims of child sexual abuse get compensation for their injuries.
She was previously a dean in the University of Ottawa law department and president of the Law Commision of Canada.
