2 teens arrested in connection with homicide of Vernon resident Jason Hardy

The sister of a Vernon, B.C. man found dead in city park last month is grappling with the news that two teenagers — aged 14 and 18 — are charged in her brother's death.

"I just can't wrap my head around that right now," said Terri Lynne Hardy. "Fourteen-year-olds are 14-year-olds. But man, it's like, a 14-year-old was involved?"

The two teenagers were charged with second-degree murder. Police say the offence appears to have been targeted and the public is not at risk.

Fun-loving with a contagious laugh

Hardy says her brother Jason Hardy, 42, was a fun-loving man with a contagious laugh. His body was found near a lawn-bowling facility in Vernon's Polson Park on Aug. 26.

She has many questions about what happened to her only brother.

"You wish you were there with him," she said. "You wish you could protect him and know what happened."

Earlier this week, police told his family they suspected foul play. Police haven't released details about how the victim died, but Hardy said investigators told her family that her brother was beaten to death.

Police said the two accused were expected to appear in a local court on Wednesday and officers are looking for anyone who has unreported information. The RCMP has said previously that Hardy was known to police.
