200 evacuated amid northern Manitoba forest fires

Officials say 200 people have been forced out of an area in northern Manitoba because of a forest fire.

That number includes 100 residents of Ilford, a small First Nations settlement, who have been relocated to Thompson.

Another 100 Manitoba Hydro workers have left their camp near Gillam but are expected to be back on the job by Monday, according to company spokesman Glenn Schneider

The fires, which started Thursday, are burning near Ilford and War Lake First Nation about 1,000 km morth of Winnipeg.

The province has closed a section of Highway 280 in the area because of poor visibility due to smoke.
