2015 International Sikh Youth Symposium in Windsor this weekend

Dozens of young Sikhs from across North America are in Windsor this weekend to attend the 2015 International Sikh Youth Symposium.

The conference centres around a public speaking competition.

It takes place at the Gurdwara Khalsa Parkash on County Road 42, just east of the airport.

"The symposium is to train our youth in an effort to express themselves properly, to explain the things in a nice flow, you know, to become good speakers," said Kuldeep Singh, the president of the Sikh Youth Alliance of North America. "They read a book and then they are asked three questions, and in their speech they have to include the answers to those three questions."

Singh says the symposium is open to the public.

"We are holding this in the gurdwara, and gurdwara is a place where anybody can come, anytime," Singh said. "It's very universal in that respect, and we also serve food to everybody, whoever comes, and there is no charge for that."

The symposium runs until Sunday.
