Transport Quebec has announced its annual spending plans for road construction in the province.
The Quebec government will spend $3.9-billion in 2012-2013, at 1,600 different construction sites.
Transport Minister Pierre Moreau said Friday that the government is investing 32 per cent more in road construction this year than in 2011 — but reassured drivers about the figures.
"It's not because the increase is at 32 per cent that you will have 32 per cent more problems with fluidity of the traffic," Moreau said.
"It's because the investment is sometimes concentrated over very important work sites."
Much of the work will take place on the Turcot Interchange, both for maintenance of the deteriorating structure and the construction of new ramps for an eventual replacement.
Moreau described the overall condition of the province's roads as good.
He said Montreal's roads and structures are in better shape than those in the rest of the province.
