3 Sons Steakhouse workers demand employment records after closure
The employees of a New Minas, N.S., steakhouse that closed suddenly in July say they're still stuck without employment insurance after the business failed to give them records of employment.
Two weeks ago, CBC News learned that the 3 Sons Steakhouse management intended to bring in a payroll company to print the records of employment and get them to workers.
Earlier this month, the former general manager of the steakhouse said that following the closure the landlord of the building locked out the management staff, preventing them from accessing the computers where the records were kept.
Former head chef Daniel Craig says he and other workers still haven't received that paperwork after seven weeks and he's worried it may be too late to receive any benefits.
According Service Canada's website if you delay filing your claim for benefits for more than four weeks after your last day of work, "you may lose benefits."
“Most of us have already applied for the employment insurance, but now all of us have got letters saying we can't do anything because you have no ROE,” he said.
He says the workers attempted to start EI claims right away and notified Service Canada that they could not get records of employment.
He says Service Canada investigated the business, then told him because the steakhouse had no money in its accounts it was not able to help.
The steakhouse closed on July 10.
As of Friday, the steakhouse management hasn't commented on the records of employment.
