5 fun things to do in Windsor-Essex this weekend

There are plenty of weather- and holiday-related events in Windsor-Essex this weekend.

CBC Windsor's Mike Evans has looked into several of them.

Santa Claus is coming to Amherstburg, there's a Roaring 20's themed holiday walk in Old Walkerville and a polar dip in Belle River.

Amherstburg Santa Claus Parade

The parade starts at 6 p.m. in downtown Amherstburg.

There will be floats, marching bands and as always Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be bringing up the rear in their giant sleigh.

Following the parade, kids can head to Tody Jones park to the gingerbread warming house to meet the big man, get a picture and talk about what they want for Christmas.

12th Annual Walkerville Holiday Walk

This year's theme is the Roaring 20's.

The event begins tonight with the grand reopening of Walkerville. Some streets in the neighbourhood were a mess for a long time with construction, but now they are good to go.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, there will be trolley tours, horse and buggy rides, a holiday tree lighting ceremony, Rum Runners Street performances and more.

The event runs Friday night from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and it continues again Saturday from 10 a.m until 6 p.m. with all of the same activities.

People are definitely encouraged to dress up in the style of the day, including flapper dresses and hats.

Made in Windsor Holiday Sale

The sale is taking place inside the Walkerville Brewery, so just a stones throw away from all the other festivities in Walkerville.

Jewelry, woodworking, home décor, pottery, knit wear, candles, books, soaps and more will be one sale over the next two days.

The Made in Windsor Holiday Sale will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event has grown from about 100 people to abotu 2,000 in 10 years,

6th Annual Belle River Polar Splash

The dip takes place Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Belle River West Beach.

Folks will be dressing up in crazy costumes and running towards the frigid waters of Lake St. Clair and then diving in to the lake.

It's an all ages event, with a live band, raffles and costumes.

Every cent participant's raise will benefit the Lakeshore community food bank and the community support centre.

Public Skating

The outdoor rink at Charles Clark Square in downtown Windsor will be open this weekend.

Real ice has returned after a failed fake ice experiment last year.
