5 weekend events in and around Vancouver April 10-12

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five events happening in and around the Vancouver area.

​1) ​Tower of Song at Centennial Theatre

Tower of Song is a creative tribute to the work of music icon Leonard Cohen, featuring Juno award-nominees Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone. The pair will play rare and classical selections from Cohen's catalogue and will feature banjo, string bass, piano and guitar.

2) Reel 2 Real - International Film Festival for Youth

Celebrating its 17th anniversary, the annual festival features movie premieres, workshops and talks that focus on engaging youth. Film industry veterans will give kids a behind-the-scenes look at how movies are made, ranging from sound design and make-up to visual effects and location scouting. If you aren't busy Saturday, take part in the pajama breakfast party at Vancity Theatre.

​3) Gallery Hop Vancouver 2015

The Canadian Art Foundation is hosting a day of art, talks and tours around Vancouver. Tour galleries along the Northern Gateway, or stop in at one of the studios situated along Main Street. A highlight includes a panel discussion about emerging opportunities for artists in the Vancouver area, and capped by a party at the Equinox Gallery.

​4) Compagnie Kafig at the Vancouver Playhouse

Led by French-Algerian choreographer Mourad Merzouk, Compagnie Kafig, features 11 male dancers from France and Brazil performing to various musical styles ranging from Baroque to electronic. The group has received rave reviews and performed in front of sold-out audiences around the world.

​5) ​ World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler

Even if you don't hit the slopes, there is still plenty of activities happening in the Village over the next nine days.The festival features a free outdoor concert series, art exhibits and nightly parties around town. There's also a bunch of showdowns where contestants compete in filmmaking, photography and comedy. Other options include watching the slopestyle, Big Air, and Halfpipe finals at the Blackcomb Terrain Park or catching a roller derby rematch between Whistler's Black Diamond Betties and the Sea to Sky Sirens.
