    QEW eastbound reopened after accident

    It was a commuting nightmare in the GTA on Wednesday morning.

    All eastbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Way were shut down at Winston Churchill Boulevard after a serious collision.

    A tractor-trailer and a passenger van collided on the highway just after 5 a.m.

    "The van was travelling eastbound, towards Toronto on the QEW, when for unknown reasons it lost control and rear ended the truck. We transported three people to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries," said OPP Const. Linda Wolf.

    The tractor-trailer flipped onto its side in the collision, blocking all of the eastbound lanes.

    Crews took most of the morning to clean up the debris and fuel spilled at the scene.

    The highway reopened just after 11 a.m.
