Acclaimed Stratford Mayor David Dunphy plans for second term

Stratford Mayor David Dunphy, who has been acclaimed to a second term ahead of next month's municipal elections, says he already has plans for his next term in office.

Nominations for candidates closed on Friday. Dunphy says he considers running unopposed as a vote of approval by Stratford residents for the work he's done over the last four years.

He says he already has some plans for his second term in office, including looking further into the issues of cosmetic pesticides and affordable housing for seniors.

Dunphy also says he's concerned about safety on the Hillsborough Bridge.

"I think we can do something with the Hillsborough Bridge in terms of providing a corridor, or a way for people to get across that bridge in a very safe manner," said Dunphy.

Also, the wastewater treatment plant will remain on the agenda, says Dunphy.

"That's sort of a big issue in Stratford, of course. We sort of have a short- to medium-term solution in place there now, but certainly work with our municipal partners in Charlottetown, with our provincial and federal governments in terms of funding and to find the viable, long-term solution to that issue."

Dunphy says he also plans to continue working with the province on a revenue-sharing agreement for the municipality.

The municipal elections take place across P.E.I. on Nov. 3.
