Accused murderer Philip Pynn has been sentenced to seven months for assault, damaging property, breaches and other charges.
Pynn pleaded guilty to the offences on Tuesday.
Pynn and another inmate, Travis Wade, pummelled a man in the holding cells at provincial court in St. John’s last June.
The three men had ended up there after property was damaged at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary in St. John’s a month earlier.
Pynn and Wade stuffed the filling from a mattress into a toilet and flooded the cell.
Wade was sentenced in January for his part in the incident.
On Tuesday, Pynn pleaded guilty to doing the damage, the assault and other charges. He got seven months in all.
Pynn's lawyer, Lori Marshall, told the court there were bad feelings between Pynn and the man who was beaten in the holding cells.
Marshall said when they were at the penitentiary, they were kept apart, but were later put together at the holding cells.
She also told the court that while Pynn now knows it was wrong to flood the cell, he did it because the mattress was stained with bodily fluids — which he found disgusting.
Next week, Pynn and another man, Lyndon Butler, will begin their preliminary hearing in relation to the alleged killing of Nick Winsor on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s last July.
