greed; gluttiny and vanity! motto's of our cANADIAN federal government. If EVERY canadian had to pay for gas it would be cheaper and less taxed. if our federal government can force ttc back to work. they should also control the spiralling gas prices; what are gas prices in the countries of oil producers?canadian oil sands are the second largest suppliers of crude. we need a general strike to shake up OUR government!

Well with gas prices where they are even a lower GST will pay handsomely. Still when Dion today was complaining the government took us close to deficit (which for 1 year would not be a problem) I guess this is egg on his face. Keep lowering my taxes as the debt is reduced, it is about time. The feds collect the most taxes per capita of any level of government and matter the least.

What a show of abusive taxation!!!! The only two reason for an unheard of thing until the new century is a tax surplus. The first and biggest reason is over taxation, of which Canada is the fourth highest on Earth. Second reason is the utter refusle to spend the money on it on the community they have legally sworn to look after. I can see they are guilty of both as my income and goods I buy extremely high and not enough hospitals, schools or decent roads. 10 years later the will cost way more

I still cannot believe people complain about the government paying down their bills. At some point, their bill will be so low, they will be forced to lower taxes. I applaud the Liberals and the Tories for both trying to lower the debt as quickly as possible. We have not had this debt level since 1982. (Debt to GDP that is)

Wow--looks like the Conservatives are showing the proper numbers. The Liberals would have squirreled it away and spread it out among the French "Rat Pack". At least Harpers team is trying. They need a majority to really show what they can do. Lets hope in the next election the "East" pulls its head out of its arse!!

Was it criticized because of the secret payouts(hidden slush funds, etc)? Or was the criticism before the scandal?..just curious.

This is great news for the economics of the country, but, I'm pretty sure one of the biggest condemnations by the conservative party during the last election was the inability of the liberal party to accurately forecast the national revenues. Now that the shoe is on the other foot it's simply declared as a result of an unforceable economic windfall created by conservative policies allowing record surpluses. Hypocritical, maybe. Holier than thou, definitely.
