Canada takes too much and gives too little. So much of our taxes seem to be wasted. The EI system just encourages abuse. The student loan system is a joke. Many countries who tax like Canada, provide free education but instead our country "loans" us our money and then charges us interest. Is it fair to charge interest when people try to better themselves? Stds graduate owing too much with no support. It's shameful. I graduated & left Canada. The price of being Canadian was too high.

Ernie, if your foreign workers did not know the first thing about being an electrician, why did you take them on? Did you not check their credentials? Did you not test their abilities before employing them? If they didn't have the skills, you could have taken a Canadian without the skills instead, and then provide training. You'd then be cultivating local talent. Why didn't you do that? I'm all for giving local kids the first opportunity, but if they don't want it, what are you going to do?

I blame two groups here for this mess: First, Canadians themselves have have gone from from the proud, "can-do!" WWII generation to the current, "what's in it for me," always waiting-for-government-to-tell-me-what-to-do-next generation. I've lived abroad for years and Canadians today strike me as almost completely without entrepreneurial spirit. Second, the gov't run education system has mindlessly pointed the youth to university instead of skilled and highly paid blue collar jobs.

So much conflicting information. Does Canada need young workers or not? If not, why do we have so much immigration? If we need young workers, why is there a lack of jobs? Young Canadians need to know which jobs are in demand and how to train for them, and they need to know this in high school!!!

Well maybe, but i do feel that the Canadian collective does need some buttons pushed. A little bit of passion has never hurt a society. What are we going to wait for an economic depression where the average person can hardly get by and a living wage is a thing of the past? This funk is due our Canadiana ideology, we need to evolve out of it. I think we're in for some hard lessons in the near future.

today's economy is different, however, the basic concepts are still the same, such as, anticipate changes, save money, invest smartly, learn something meaningful, spend wisely, and take good care of your health. If we do all those basic concept, you bet, we all be financially secured .. maybe not a millionaire yet .. but at least, we will achieve the "canadian dreams".

ceri - you're writing about jobs being created and salaries being slightly higher then other places. You neglect the fact that houses out west are sky-rocketing and you need the higher salaries to afford a roof over your head. and duaner is just an idiot.
