My mom worked FT while and my dad took the role of taking care of housework & me, and still is the same now (for 12 yrs) and it all has managed quite well, we were never in lack of anything and we're not a CEO family, it has to do with how one manages their $ and controlled aspirations. I don't think you can put a monetary value for the hours spent to being a FT parent. You can't get paid to do something this demanding (for long anyways) unless you're truly dedicated and is driven by love.

No doubt it is a huge job to be a stay at home mom, but I'm tired of the media making me feel guilty for being a working mom. By the way, if I didn't have a job we would have no food and no place to live. I wonder if anyone ever considers that us working moms can't sit down on the couch for a minute or two and go to the fridge for a snack if we feel like it. Oh, of course, stay at home moms NEVER do that! Give me a break.

Stay at home parents (there are a few daddys as well) are totally undervalued. They also provide security for the neighbourhood and ensured vacancies at day cares. They should at least qualify for social security or Canada pension as they have positively effected the country. They also allowed other people to maintain employment when jobs were more scarce. There is no end of the good parents inject into the community and the economy by staying at home and raising their children.

Strange how society and the economy couldn't survive without unpaid 'women's work', yet it's a job that gets little acknowledgement and less respect from that same society.

I was a stay-at home mom and raised four awesome children. My husband worked 12 hour days five days a week and 8 hours on Saturday.I was alone with my children most of the time. You will never get that time back and I do not regret a minute of it.It is very hard however to get back into the school system.I am a substitute teacher.

nonsence... I gree with the gist of the story of what house wives would make but the suggestion that this is what CEOs make is rediculous. In this day and age most CEOs are making 7 figure saleries. Many are earning 8 or 9 figure saleries. That was a story in yahoo not to long ago.

I would like to say, my husband and I BOTH take care of our kids! I work PT, on his days off, so WE can raise our kids, pay a stranger to raise our kids! We all talk about stay at home moms, but there are also LOTS of Dads out there that do not get the recognition they truly deserve! Kudos to any PARENTS, being it "Mom, or Dad", taking on the responsibilities of taking care of their kids!It is definitely a tough job, but I am thankful for the love we receive at the end of the day!Beautiful Kids!
