marwalbash, your 'automatic' assumption about the contaminated beef as possibly from China shows the level of ignorance in our society. The US and Canada are BIG exporters of beef TO China. In fact, one of the frequent complaints of the Americans is that China (&Japan,Korea) does not import enough American beef due to BSE concerns! The unfortunate reality is that US & Canada export beef, pork, etc., and import cars and electronics. Unfortunate because no one forced them to do that except greed.

Cone on we all know that this beef ended up in alot more places than they are saying, everyone out there be very careful cooking and handling any hamburger or beef for awhile. Cook thouroughly and wash counters and utensils with bleach. Use an antibacterial soap on hand and use gloves if you have any cuts on your hands, Remember Scotland same strain. 22 died and it was everywhere.

pjparkinson...still talking about China..processed foods in China? hardly!! 1 main reason for lowered immunity in China is that antibiotics can be bought in the corner store PJ..that has lowered normal body resistance!! Processed foods in China...grab a brain or better yet really learn about what u wish to speak of..u think you sound like an authority on China & many other topics but all you end up doing is showing your true ignorance of the subject at hand!

Sorry, irradiation is not the answer. Sure you kill the bacteria, but you also kill everything else in the food product too. We need those enzymes alive. If they aren't, you will eat more to try to get them (natural response), become obese and still need to eat more because you are missing them. I don't own a microwave for this very reason. I am in perfect health!

It's caused by N American authorities resisting food irradiation. This is compounded by widespread fear of it among public, out of ignorance, as people associate it with "nuke" But it's simply strong ultra-violet light, which is safe, or if you don't think so, stay in your dungeon, because the Sun is a powerful source of it, it's what gives you suntan and sunburn. Ironically, these same baffoons who fear it, think suntanning is healthy.
