Let’s not lose one more troop, or harm anymore civilians like these kids! How can we continue to pour the enormous amounts of money and human support into this bottomless pit, with corruption rampant at all levels of the Karzai gov’t? (Afghanistan's existing anti-corruption minister, Izzatullah Wasifi, is a convicted drug dealer.) Reports continually refer to the movement of insurgents across borders in the region, something that has never been dealt with in a substantive way. Six years and counting later, we continue to lose our troops, innocent civilians like these little kids get killed, and yet inside the borders of Canada, we have serious issues of homelessness in our cities, and abject poverty in many area of the country? We have significant problems in funding our public health care system, something that many Canadians have interest in maintaining at a high level of service, but funding issues are front-and-centre of every province in the country. The resources we are pouring into a situation could be spent fixing our own problems. How can we complain about soaring gas prices, when we continue to see Canadian riches siphoned off to war-lords and others, and the aid money never make it to the poor people of Afghanistan that it was intended for? When will our gov’t push to have diplomatic talks begun and supported between all stakeholders in this conflict so that this combat mission can end and peace begin? Please consider writing to your Member of Parliament, and PM Steven Harper, stating your reasons for the end to Canada’s combat mission in Afghanistan.
