A 43-year-old man is facing several weapons-related charges in a follow-up to the case of an 11-year-old boy who took a loaded handgun to school, police in Saskatoon say. No one was hurt when the gun accidentally fired.
Police said the boy wanted to show the gun to his friends at St. Peter School.
It was in his backpack in his locker, when it accidentally went off around 10:15 a.m. CST Jan. 26.
"As part of the investigation, several long guns and another handgun were seized from the youth's residence," police said Friday, adding the firearms remain in police custody.
The man was charged with careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm without a license, and one count of possession of a prohibited device.
He is set to appear in court on Feb. 27.
Due to age restrictions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, no criminal charges can be laid against the boy police said.
