Adult film theatre Cinema L'Amour celebrates 100th anniversary
Robert Casini wants Montrealers to know Cinema L'Amour is not a peep show.
The manager of the cinema says the St-Laurent Boulevard theatre is rich in unexploited historical value.
Casini, who has been managing the theatre off and on for more than 30 years, says the building has not been renovated since it opened in 1914.
The theatre was originally called the Globe and opened as a venue for Yiddish cinema.
Over the years, the building changed hands several times, first screening Hollywood films and eventually becoming a venue for adult film.
Today, for $10.50, clients can spend the day at the theatre as two films alternate on the screen. Casini says there are up to 75 customers per day during the week and about 150 during the weekend.
Casini says the theatre has tried to open it's doors to the wider community in recent years, hosting Pop Montreal shows and other performances.
The theatre owners intend to do more of this in the future but Casini says they will never abandon their chief function and loyal community of clients.
