Alberta foster care supervisor faces child porn charges
An Alberta foster care supervisor is facing child pornography charges.
Daniel Quiring Stoesz, 62, of Lac La Biche is charged with possessing and making available child pornography.
Police began investigating after receiving information from the FBI in Connecticut about someone distributing child pornography over the internet from a home in Lac La Biche.
On Thursday, police searched Stoesz's home and seized computer equipment and electronic storage devices.
Stoesz was not there at the time of the search but was arrested later. Police also searched Stoesz’s workplace, seizing additional computer equipment.
RCMP Sgt. Mike Lokken with the Internet Child Exploitation [ICE] unit said there is nothing to indicate that any of the children Stoesz may have encountered through his work are involved.
"I hope that by seeing this that people's ideas aren't tainted of foster care workers, or of foster parents, because this is one allegation out of thousands of good people out there," he said.
Stoesz appeared in Lac La Biche provincial court on Friday. He is being held in custody until his next court appearance Monday.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team is leading the investigation.
Human Services Minister Dave Hancock said Stoesz has been suspended with pay.
