Alleged credit card fraudsters thwarted by Winnipeg police
Two men have been charged in connection to credit card fraud in the Winnipeg area, the Winnipeg Police Service released Friday.
The 18-year-old and the 25-year-old arrested have 13 charges pending against them. The charges include fraud, unauthorized use of credit card data, and possession of property obtained by crime.
On Aug. 25 and 26, the suspects went to three department stores in the city and purchased electronics and gift cards using forged credit cards. Police estimate that the total value of all the goods purchased is roughly $29,000.
The businesses involved observed numerous suspicious purchases and contacted police.
Charges were laid on Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m., the two suspects were located and arrested near the airport.
The suspects travelled to Winnipeg from Montreal for the purpose of committing credit card fraud, according to police.
