Amber Alert ended for pregnant Saskatchewan teen

Police have cancelled an Amber Alert issued for a pregnant Saskatchewan teenager who RCMP believed had been abducted by another teen.

Katelyn Mosquito, 14, is approximately eight months into her pregnancy and is from the Maple Creek area.

The alert was issued Thursday morning when police said they believed she was taken by Jonathan Hansen, 16, also from the Maple Creek area, which is in the southwest corner of the province.

On Thursday night, RCMP said the teens were brought to the Swift Current detachment by the boy's family around 7:20 p.m. CST.

At a news conference in Regina Thursday morning, a spokesman for the RCMP said the alert was issued because police had information Katelyn had been forcibly removed from where she had been staying, at her sister's home.

In reference to Katelyn's pregnancy, police said she and Jonathan were in a relationship, but could not confirm if he is the father of her baby.

Hansen's mother, Caralee Hansen, told CBC News on Thursday that the alert resulted from a misunderstanding.

"Kids will be kids and sometimes they believe what they do is right," Hansen added. "Sometimes they do simple mistakes."

A news conference is scheduled to be held in Regina at 9:30 p.m. CST.
