'Very large fire' engulfs southeast Calgary car dealership

Fire crews battled a fire on Sunday morning at a car dealership in southeast Calgary.

"The fire was very large. We had multiple fires in the building. We had smoke and flames coming from various sides and from the roof," said acting battalion chief Frank Ostrow.

A driver passing by just before 10 a.m. called 911 to say they saw smoke and flames coming from the sides and roof of Rachid's Auto Sales, located in the Foothills industrial area.

When firefighters arrived on scene, a second alarm was quickly called.

Crews battled the flames from the outside and once they were brought under control, a search was done of the building.

No one was inside and no injuries were reported.

Investigators are looking for a cause.

Calgary Fire is asking anyone with photos or video of the fire, especially before firefighters arrived, to email them.
