Canada's top arm wrestlers hope to grunt and strain their way to a national win in Ottawa this weekend.
The city is hosting the Canadian championships in the sport. The winner will represent Canada at the World Arm Wrestling Federation championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, starting Nov. 30.
Ottawa's Devon Larratt is the world top right hander in the heavyweight class. He likes the sport because "I can fight with somebody … and at the end we can walk away."
The competitors have all won provincial championships to make it into this event, and take the sport seriously.
But Eric Roussin, one of the championship organizers, said it's different for the public. "People are surprised that it exists," he said.
"I think it is because it hasn't been on TV that much."
