A roadshow of another name is coming to Nova Scotia to appraise art and antiques — all because of one wrong letter.
The Mayflower and Greenwood shopping malls booked what they thought was the Antiques Roadshow, a popular BBC program.
Instead, they got the British Artiques Roadshow.
Melva Daley Smith, marketing manager for the Mayflower mall in Sydney, said she didn't notice the "R" when she paid an undisclosed fee.
"When we were first approached to do this, you hear 'Antiques Roadshow' and you assume it is the British one that's on TV through PBS," she said.
Both roadshows involve appraisers who look at antiques and collectibles brought in by the public.
David Freeman, one of two Artique appraisers, said his group sends out DVDs that explain the difference.
"Absolutely everything disassociates us, completely disassociates us with the BBC television program," he said.
The BBC's legal department has been asked to look into the Artiques Roadshow, said Olwen Gillespie, a BBC spokesperson.
Gillespie said the Artiques Roadshow website is misleading, particularly because the group refers to itself as the "British Roadshow."
Smith expects people will come to the mall in May to show off their personal treasures, even without a television production.
The fee is $15 per item.
