Astronaut talk was 'awesome'

A presentation to students on space exploration Thursday was well received.

Students in grades six to nine across Saskatchewan participated in the event, connected through the internet.

Some Regina students were also treated to a talk, in person, by James Rice, an astro-geologist who has worked on a number of NASA missions to Mars.

"It was absolutely awesome to meet him because I've absolutely loved space forever," Adam Nibergall, a student at Miller High School, told CBC News after the talk. "To have this come to Regina, you never think that'd happen."

Nibergall is hoping to become a quantum physicist.

Rice said inspiring students to start working towards their goals, at a young age, is important.

"It seems a long way away before you get older but it happens pretty quick," Rice said. "I want ... to encourage and inspire them to do something worthwhile in their life because you only get one shot here."

Rice added that anything is possible, if you're determined. He told the students that although he was not a strong student in his school years, with hard work and determination he reached his childhood dream of working with NASA.
