Woman in hospital after ATV rollover on Southland Drive

One woman has non-life threatening injuries after her ATV rolled over on Southland Drive on Saturday.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. MT police received a report about an ATV travelling westbound on Stoney Trail. An RCMP officer happened to be in the area and followed the ATV, trying to keep other vehicles from passing.

The woman, who police say is about 21 years old, then went onto Deerfoot Trail and exited onto Southland Drive S.E. where she lost control of the ATV, hitting a curb median. She was travelling between 70 and 80 kilometres an hour at the time, police say.

Acting Sgt. Dave Den Tandt said it was "clear" the woman is "mentally [disabled.]"

"At this time, we don't believe she was aware police were following her," he said.

The woman was taken to Foothills hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
