Ben and Jerry's backs Wall Street protesters

The directors of Ben and Jerry's ice cream have thrown their support behind the Occupy Wall Street movement sweeping the United States, even if they answer to a European conglomerate.

In a statement on the company's website, seen Tuesday, they shared the protesters' anger with inequity within the United States ("simply immoral"), high unemployment and unbridled political spending by big corporations.

"All this goes on while corporate profits continue to soar and millionaires whine about paying a bit more in taxes," they said. "And we have not even mentioned the environment."

Ben and Jerry's was founded in Vermont by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, who sold their company -- built around an all-natural ethos -- to the Anglo-Dutch food and personal care giant Unilever.

They are no longer on the board, but the brand still prides itself on supporting progressive causes.

In August, Unilever -- which also owns Dove soap and Lipton tea -- reported first-half net profits of 2.4 billion euros ($3.3 billion), up nine percent from a year earlier.

Typical elitist liberals. They sold out to wall street when they sold the company to unilever. They took their millions and then bash the system that they used to make them wealthy. I wonder if these types really believe their own #$%$

Ben and Jerry's has just joined the Hollywood elitist snobs on my list of two-faced, loud-mouthed socialist hypocrites that reject the very same capitalist system from which they continue to profit handsomely. So who's stopping you from writing a check? You clowns will not get another dime from me. I can gurantee you that the overwhelming majority of this country does not support the actions or values of the urine-drinking, cop car deffacating, jew-hating, deadbeat freeloaders and nutjobs that you have been so quick to embrace.

Do you suppose either mr. Cohen or Greenfield have cut their checks to the UST for "a bit more" in taxes?

B&J support Occupy wallstreet and I thus shall boycott B&J. For them to fall into this protest of 1% of the population that is a bunch of uneducated, jobless, skilless individuals that can't even accurately explain wall street is a joke. They should be ashamed of themselves. No B&J for me. Boycott is ON!

Two counterculture hippies backing OWS. Whodda thunk it?! They didn't seem to have a problem with Wall St when they sold their company for millions
    • libaby  •  7 months ago
You choose to back OWS - I choose not to buy your product!

      Gee, that was easy!!!

My gosh.....a slip of the finger on the keyboard, and you blast Anon.......just because the person doesn't agree with your viewpoint. Get a life......

      • Logic 7 months ago
Haha, this is true. Can't say I'm not proud of them for supporting though.
    • Iron Man  •  7 months ago
Oh well, no more Ben and Jerry's for me. They can throw their support behind marxists, anticapitalist and filthy zombies all they want to, but I wont support them. The real problem with what is going on today is corrupt politicians and a congress and president who refuse to work together.

Hypocrites......please send your $$$ to pay for the OWS Socialist movement to the taxpayers paying for their occupatiion. Never buy their s@#t.

I have never purchased BJ ice cream! I couldn't afford it on my 'living wage'!
    • serf_tide  •  7 months ago
Ben and Jerry has always been pretty far left. I haven't eaten any of their ice cream in over 20 years. There are plenty of alternatives who don't go out of their way to tell me that they are leftist.
      • Gia 7 months ago
You don't eat their ice cream because of their poiltical views? so every decision you make in life is a direct result of politics?
      • Craig 7 months ago
Im not going to eat it either, and no everything in life is not about politics, but maybe ben and jerry should stick to making ice cream and not make their political views known especially if they are so obviously hypocites by supporting these idiotic protestors, who have know idea what they are really protesting, after selling out to wall street.
      • serf_tide 7 months ago
Not every decision is political...matter of fact hardly any, but Ben & Jerry's has consistently gone out of their way to support causes that are leftist. That means that they want me to know that their profits are supporting causes that I might not agree with. Because of that, I stopped eating it.

How can you #$%$ support something that is protesting you? What a load of crap. I wouldn't eat B&J ice cream now if someone paid me to do it.

Ben and Jerry's Overrated, Overpriced, Ice Cream, They should talk with the prices they charge for ice cream.

Progressive ideals = Sociallist ideals. How about protesting the ones who made this inequity? DOWN WITH WOODROW WILSON!!!

No more Lipton tea, Dove soap or Ben and Jerrys for me...the last thing I'll be doing is supporting a foreign company looking to spread socialism in the US.
      • Logic 7 months ago
Oh the ol' socialism mud flinging comments! I can do that!

The last thing I'm going to do is deposit my money into these large U.S. investment banks and vote strictly based on political party because they want to spread Fascism.
      • jenkmeister 7 months ago
Hey Logic......contrary to what your college educators told you, Facism by definition and political ideology is NEITHER on the right or left spectrum.......nice try......but judging by the groups that are aligning with those "wall street protesters"....lets see here, The Communists Party, The Socialist Party, The American Nazi Party, Council on Islamic relations, Code Pink........I really don't see much in the way of "mudslinging".....such a stellar lists of groups to be affiliated with.....you liberals should be soooo proud to have these groups as supporters for your cause.
      • Logic 7 months ago
Hey Jenkmeister: When did I say Fascism was on the right or left political spectrum? I didn't, but nice try there bud. Also, when did I say or indicate I was liberal? I didn't, but once again nice try. I'm just sick of the term Socialism being thrown around like it's a dog toy.

Let me explain in terms you might understand. I used "Fascism". Fascism is bad, so is Socialism. Both are terrible ideas so I substituted a bad idea with another bad idea. See below for the definition of Fascism.

Fascim : 1) a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2): a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Now, because you took a lot out of context let me do the same. Mission Statement: "...a healthy environment, children's welfare, and freedom of belief without fear..."

Sounds like something from the Tea Party right? I would say it does. Too bad that's part of the mission statement from the American Nazi Party. Using your rhetoric, I guess that means that the Tea Party is affiliated with The Nazis. You're a sheep Jenkmeister.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Nearly 50 U.S. military veterans at an anti-NATO rally in Chicago threw their service medals into the street on Sunday, an action they said symbolized their rejection of the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of the veterans, many wearing military uniform shirts over black anti-war t-shirts, choked back tears as they explained their actions. Others folded an American flag while a bugle played "Taps," which is typically performed at U.S. military funerals. "The medals …
