A monster tornado cut a mile-wide swath of destruction through the southern Oklahoma City suburb of Moore on Monday afternoon, leveling entire neighbourhoods along its path. At least 24 deaths have been reported, including several children, and there have been an untold number of injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the tornado formed very quickly, touching down southwest of Oklahoma City at 2:56 p.m. Central Time, and cutting a roughly 30-km path across to the east, straight through the middle of Moore, in the southern part of the Oklahoma City Metro Area.

Dellen Millard as he appeared in court with his lawyer Deepak Paradkar on Wednesday.The Tim Bosma murder case has taken a strange turn after police revealed they'd found another set of remains on the rural Ontario property owned by the prime suspect.

CBC News reports burned remains have been discovered on the farm property owned by suspect Dellen Millard. Police now are trying to determine whether they belong to an animal or human being.

Police previously said they'd found burned remains that investigators believe were Bosma's, as well as an industrial-grade livestock incinerator. Millard doesn't own any livestock.

Millard, 27, is charged with the kidnapping and first-degree murder of Bosma, who vanished May 6 after driving off two men who answered an ad for the used Dodge Ram truck he'd posted for sale.

The discovery of a second set of remains comes after word investigators were re-examining the disappearance last July of Millard acquaintance Laura Babock.

It looks like the southern parts of B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, as well as southern Ontario and nearly all of Quebec and the Maritimes will be seeing slightly warmer temperatures to start the season off, with the rest of the country following suit into July and August.

Canada's 10-year combat mission in Afghanistan created a lot of baggage, and I don't mean the figurative kind. Some of it is still over there.

The Canadian Press reports a team of soldiers has been sent to Kandahar, the hub of Canada's operations in Afghanistan until 2011, to determine if hundreds of shipping containers containing military equipment are still in good enough shape for the sea voyage home.

The 375 containers of what's been termed low-priority material, have been stranded at Kandahar Air Base for almost 18 months because Pakistan had closed the main exit point from Afghanistan for several months, CP said.

The certification of up to 150 containers has expired and the 15-member technical assistance team will assess whether they still meet standards set by international shipping companies, Capt. Jennifer Stadnyk of the military's operational command told CP.

A waitress and Tumblr user who goes by the handle "Casual Cynic" posted a photo of a receipt that made her mom's day.

A mysterious customer recently gave Casual Cynic's mother, also a waitress, a $1,000 tip on a $60.42 meal.

Next to the tip, the uber-generous customer wrote, "Your ticket to Italy. Enjoy!!"

On her Tumblr blog, Casual Cynic explained that her mom had been chatting with the customer about her desire to see Italy and how her ancestors come from Florence.

Happy Victoria Day, everyone! And judging by the comments to yesterday's story suggesting the holiday be subdivided, there's no enthusiasm for calling it anything else.

The Canadian Press reported Sunday that a number of prominent Canadians have started a petition to rename it "Victoria and First Peoples Day."

Notables such as writer Margaret Atwood, aboriginal actor Graham Greene and Inuit singer Susan Aglukark are among those backing a petition calling on Ottawa to repurpose the May statutory holiday to honour both the British monarchy (besides Victoria, it also recognizes the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II) and Canada's First Nations.

The petition's backers, which also include Green Party leader Elizabeth May and one-time NDP leadership hopeful Brian Topp, say it's a natural fit.

Britain may have to redefine its street light signals after a dove nested within a light at Cuckoo Corner in Essex, England, according to the BBC. The light contains spike to deter birds from nesting but that hasn't stopped the dove from happily settling in under the light's warmth.

A spokesperson from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds told the broadcaster the bird's chosen area has a park with plenty of grass and food nearby.

This bird could be directing local traffic for a while.

Meanwhile, the latest corporate threat to Hewlett-Packard isn't financial but fowl-related.

The company is teaching employees at its Boise, Idaho, office how to avoid attacks by Canada geese, through a memo that has since been posted online by a Huffington Post writer.
