Chia Obama easily beating Chia Romney at the polls; Canadian politicians the next pets?

Americans seem to be a little more creative than Canadians when it comes to hyping-up elections.

Case in point: the current Chia Poll.

The folks that brought you the Chia Pet are now marketing 'Chia Obama' and 'Chia Romney' side-by-side. And, as a clever marketing ploy, they're turning it into an opinion poll ahead of next month's presidential election.

For the record, PR News is reporting that Barack Obama is leading Republican nominee Mitt Romney — by a 'heady' margin — when it comes to sales of their respective Chia Pets. As of last Saturday, Chia Obama had 69.6 per cent of the sales compared to Chia Romney's 29.5 per cent share.

Chias for Canada's politicians?

With his full head of wavy hair, you've got to believe that a Justin Trudeau Chia pet would be just awesome.

How about a Thomas Mulcair Chia with seedlings for his beard?

Joe Pedot, the marketer of the presidential Chia Pets was on CBC Radio's As it Happens on Thursday when host Carol Off asked him about a Canadian politico product line.

"I can do it if you thought Canadians would love to have that," he quipped.

"That might be a phenomenal idea."

I'm one Canadian who would love see that.

Political memorabilia in Canada:

It's not election time in Canada, but political memorabilia might be a nice gift for the politico in your life.

During the 2011 election campaign, according to the Toronto Star, "The Soup Guy" in Ottawa's World Exchange tower was selling bobble heads of each the political leaders of the major parties.

Bobble heads for Harper and Layton are still available for sale here and here for about $20 each.

If you're still looking for a Halloween costume, how about a Stephen Harper mask?

And here's a potential stocking-stuffer for all you anti-Harperites out there:

Last Fall, editorial cartoonist Dave Rosen produced The Stephen Harper Colouring and Activity Book. Be aware, however, this is not a book for young children. One colouring page includes "Four Ways Stephen Harper is Like a [James] Bond Villian" while activity pages include "Build a G-8 Gazeebo."

Sounds like hours of fun.
