A day of April Fool’s Day ‘foolery’ on the election campaign trail

Federal political candidates, parties and media alike lightened the mood on the campaign trail Friday by taking part in a little April Fool's Day hi jinx.

CBC highlighted some of the top pranks of the day on its website. The most risqué prank came from blogger Fagstein and was perpetuated in a tweet by the Liberals' Justin Trudeau.

The blogger suggested a bar code on all of Justin Trudeau's campaign signs linked to the website www.luberal.ca instead of www.liberal.ca. Luberal.ca, said the blogger, was a site of an organization devoted to the liberal use sexual items.

The CBC prank list also included a picture of a Jack Layton press conference where the attending media donned white moustaches in a barb against the NDP leader.

There was no news of any Conservative party pranks. There was, however, one reference to a press release by Alberta's Wild Rose Party. In the release, the right-of-centre provincial party announced its intentions to run candidates in all of Alberta's 28 federal ridings.

"We've heard so much about an opposition coalition in this election," the release stated, "we figured we'd provide Stephen Harper with a party he could form a coalition with as well. "
