Reports suggest paramedics and police were called to Senator Patrick Brazeau’s home

There are conflicting reports about some sort of medical and police incident at the home of Senator Patrick Brazeau this week.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, paramedics and police were called to the former Conservative, now independent, senator's home two times early Tuesday morning.

Paramedics and police responded to his home first sometime around 2 a.m. after someone called 911 saying a man was feeling ill.

When police and paramedics arrived, the patient refused treatment. Then, two hours later, paramedics and police responded again after someone called 911 around 4 a.m. It was a call about a depressed man, and paramedics transported the patient to hospital.

It is not known how long the patient spent in hospital, but by Tuesday night, the Gatineau Hospital confirmed that the patient was no longer at the hospital.

Other media outlets — including QMI agency — are citing sources from Quebec which suggest that the police went to Brazeau's home and arrested him after an unidentified female appeared at a hospital claiming to have self-inflicted injuries. Radio station 104.7 FM, which first 'broke' the story, said that police had to use pepper spray on Brazeau because he resisted arrest.

Brazeau's office, however, is denying reports of an arrest.

"The rumour of an arrest is false. I can offer that officially," Debby Simms, Brazeau's assistant, told the Huffington Post in an email.

"But I have no information beyond that at this time."

Senator Brazeau, of course, is in a whole lot of other trouble.

The Stephen Harper appointee was charged with both assault and sexual assault for an incident at his home on February 7th. According to court records, an argument about aboriginal issues turned to a violent altercation in which Brazeau allegedly aggressively grabbed the female complainant's breast and pushed her hard enough to break the handrail of the staircase. The charges have not been proven in a court of law.

His next court appearance is scheduled for next Wednesday.

The senator is also under RCMP investigation for allegedly claiming a Senate living allowance that he wasn't legally entitled to.

In May, a Senate finance committee asked that Brazeau repay $48,744 for the false housing claims; he refused to do so but his wages are currently being garnisheed.

Moreover, CTV News recently reported that police are also looking into whether Brazeau was falsely claiming an on-reserve federal tax exemption while actually living off-reserve in Gatineau.

Brazeau was forced to take a leave of absense from the Senate, in February, pending resolution of his assault and sexual assault charges.
