Over the past year, some the most memorable political events were brought to us via YouTube. Here are some of our favourite political YouTube videos of 2011:

Rob Ford family barbecue

This video of Stephen Harper at Toronto mayor Rob Ford's summer barbecue was allegedly taken down at the request of the Conservatives but reappeared sometime in mid-September.

The controversial video shows the two fishing buddies musing about a Conservative hat-trick in Ontario.

Love Song for Elizabeth May

Josh Rachlis, a Toronto-based advertising copywriter and self-described "eco-comedian" performed this humorous ode to the Green Party leader and posted it on YouTube during the election campaign.

The online video had thousands of views and was featured on websites, newspapers, radio talk shows and television newscasts across the country.

Sleepy Rob Anders

Conservative MP Rob Anders garnered some Internet buzz, last month with a YouTube video that showed him falling asleep during question period in the House of Commons.

In the video, you see the Calgary MP struggling to stay awake while his Tory colleague, John Duncan, addresses the parliament.

Vote mob

During the federal election campaign, comedian Rick Mercer issued a challenge to Canada's young people to get out the youth vote.

Students at the University of Guelph were the first to take him up on his challenge by producing this widely-viewed "vote mob" video.

Michael Ignatieff's "Rise Up Canada"

In the dying days of the federal election campaign, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff made one last-ditched effort to excite the electorate with this speech apparently inspired by Bruce Springsteen.
