B.C. woman forced to call police over attacking goat

A woman in Abbotsford, B.C. was forced to call the police Monday afternoon because she was trapped in her house by a vicious and stubborn goat.

The woman, who is in her forties, tried to go to her car, but the goat kicked the car and chased the woman back inside her house, reports the Vancouver Sun. Apparently the animal had escaped from a neighbour's property.

Const. Ian MacDonald told the Abbotsford News the woman was planning to leave the house, but couldn't because the goat was on the porch ramming the front door. The goat also took out some frustration by head butting the barbecue. The woman tried to shoo it away and then resorted to throwing empty beer bottles at the animal, but it wouldn't move.

When officers arrived the younger one picked up a stick and tried to get the goat to move. This also didn't work. So the more experienced officer decided to take a more hands-on approach.

"He walks up to the goat, grabs it by the collar, drags it next door and ties it to the fence post," said MacDonald to the Abbotsford News.

Goats may seem cute sometimes, but they have been known to attack. France Pilotte, 75, was feeding goats and a llama at a petting zoo in Langley, B.C. with her family when the animals attacked her. She suffered fractures and needed plates, metal rods and pins to fix her broken femur, hip, elbow and arm.

As for the Abbotsford goat, animal control has spoken with the goat's owner.

"I think the woman is feeling a lot better now, knowing she can exit her home without being confronted by a goat," said MacDonald to News 1130. "If the goat remains on its own property I think it will probably live a long and interesting life. Although I'm certain if this happens again, the woman may consider putting the goat on her barbecue."

MacDonald hopes officers take a video camera the next time they receive a call to that property. "We would obviously like incidents like this documented for our own use."
