Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’ inspiring viral video dance craze

A meme that's inspiring terrible dance moves to rival every Gangnam Style parody is spreading online like wildfire, confusing everyone because it appears to have originated from nowhere.

The 'Harlem Shake' has soldiers, firefighters and teenage girls recording silly dance videos set to the song Harlem Shake by Baauer. The song came out several months ago and it's unclear why the world didn't realize it existed until now.

What's more, the Harlem Shake is already a dance move that looks nothing like the viral trend.

The new meme involves one person dancing alone, usually wearing a helmet or a mask, while others stay still. Then when the beat drops, there's an edit in the video and suddenly everyone is on their feet dancing like maniacs who have lost all muscle control. They also change their clothes.

We may not understand, but we duly document. And so, without further ado, witness the best of the Harlem Shake:

This video, published on Feb. 2, seems to be the first of the Harlem Shake dance videos. Is it possible that a man in a pink spandex onesie has taken over the Internet?

The Norwegian army shake requires skis and soldiers squirming on the ground in camouflage sleeping bags.

No pillow fights here. These women look like they're studying, but things get wild when they get shakin'.

These firefighters revealed their secret dance-floor identities as Spiderman and a giant chicken. It just keeps getting weirder.

No need to keep your shaking and grooving a secret — bring it to the office.

Dancing in the middle of the road in New York City while everyone else prepares for the wrath of a major winter storm? Sounds like a great idea.
