Broadway cast of The Lion King sings 'Circle of Life' on NYC subway

If you've ever been on the Metro in New York City (aka the subway train), you know that its riders have seen it all, and often do it all, from break-dancing and musical numbers for spare change to the more crazy, er, performances.

But we're pretty sure not even the most seasoned riders would have expected this. The cast of the Broadway production of The Lion King (the musical), dressed out of costume, spontaneously breaks into song on the subway during a busy day commute.

The performance took place June 28 on an "A" train car, during a break between a matinee performance and another that evening, and involved 30 cast members, MSNBC's theGrio reports, noting that in 2013, "the NYC subway served over 1 billion riders, and last year The Lion King became Broadway’s first $1 billion show."

The YouTube video of the seemingly spontaneous performance was posted by actor Jamal Lee Harris, a member of the cast.

The Broadway cast's performance, as theGrio indicates, may be a response to or continuation of the in-flight performance of 'Circle of Life' by the Australian cast of the same show.

They say anything can happen in NYC, and usually does, for a reason. That reason? Magical moments like this.
