Cool job opportunity: General manager of Stonehenge

If “Druid priest” appears on your shortlist of past lives, have we got the job opportunity for you.

Stonehenge, the impenetrably mysterious prehistoric rock formation in Wiltshire, England, is primed for a new general manager and English Heritage is willing to pay someone nearly $100,000 per year for the privilege.

Duties will include coordinating a team of 180 staff and volunteers, making sure the million or so tourists who mill through the standing stone ring are having a proper good time and also solving a puzzle that has perplexed history’s brightest minds for thousands of years.

OK, so maybe not the last bit, but just imagine the Christmas bonus opportunities if you succeed.

“Stonehenge is one of the wonders of the world, a monument of the same iconic status as the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower,” Tim Reeve, English Heritage’s Historic Properties Director, wrote in a statement.

“We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational person to welcome the million-plus visitors to Stonehenge each year including the tens of thousands who celebrate the sun-rise there every Summer Solstice.”

English Heritage is currently accepting applications from exceptional candidates.

So if you’re still reeling from the rejection of your Hamilton Island groundskeeper application in 2009, the universe is offering you a second chance.

This job may still be available, though. As the Druids* would say, the universe is kind.

*This is probably not what the Druids would say.
