Dashboard cam captures dramatic highway collision

Ralph Ireland and his wife are lucky to be alive.

The couple were heading home after a trip to Winnipeg when they collided with another truck on the Kenora Bypass on Ontario's Highway 17.

It's clear from the dashboard camera in Ireland's truck that the other driver pulled onto the highway from a side road without seeing Ireland.

"Had I not hit the brakes, he'd be dead," Ireland told the CBC. "And we might be as well."

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 36-year-old man from Manitoba in the incident.

Dashboard cameras, now a staple in Russian vehicles for insurance purposes, have been gaining popularity in North America. Earlier this year we posted a dramatic video of two semi-trucks almost colliding on Ontario's Highway 11 north of Nipigon.
