Hawaiian fisherman shares catch with leaping shark

A generous fisherman in Hawaii shared his catch with a shark last weekend and captured the little picnic on video.

He didn't have much choice but to share his tuna when the shark leaped out of the water and tried to take a bite out of the fish that was hooked on his line.

The man was Isaac Brumaghim, according to Hawaii News Now, an "extreme kayak fisherman" who seemed startled by the sharks sudden leap. Brumaghim swore but then he still tried to reel in the fish, ever the determined fisherman.

In the end, the shark swam under the boat and ate the fish, he told the news outlet.

A marine biologist told Hawaii News Now the shark may have been drawn to the hooked fish if it was bleeding.

I feel compelled to include a public safety warning: dangling food before a shark and then trying to take it back again is not advisable. But it does make for a popular YouTube video, as this one has been viewed nearly two million times since it was uploaded on April 10.

At least he didn't take the approach of a man in a similar situation earlier this year who wrestled a shark away from a beach in Australia.

However, Brumaghim did catch more fish after the encounter, according to the story, meaning he was brave — or foolish — enough to go after more of the shark's food.
