Tim Cocker asked his kids what they wanted for Christmas.

Louis wanted a “Ben 10” watch. Little Connie wanted a “Barbie Princess” and “Ken King.”

And while it was still two weeks before Christmas, Cocker then let them each open a present.

Connie unwrapped an onion. Louis, a banana.

Cocker’s kids’ reactions, however, were not what he expected: They grinned from ear to ear — and even thanked him for their gifts.

(Cocker did, after all, title the video: “I Gave My Kids A Terrible Christmas Present.”)

“As we approach Christmas I wonder if my children realize how fortunate they are when they are inevitably spoilt rotten on Christmas Day,” Cocker wrote on YouTube. “So I decided to let them have one early gift 2 weeks before Christmas. One terrible gift that is.”

Cocker said he was “pleasantly surprised” by his kids’ enthusiasm for the produce.

"Louie and Connie are happy, cheerful kids so I knew they wouldn’t throw a major tantrum. But I never expected them to be that excited about some fruit and veg!” Cocker, 33, told the MailOnline.

"If only they were that excited about it when it’s time to eat their greens at dinner."

Cocker posted the video three years ago, days after Jimmy Kimmel challenged parents to film themselves giving their kids “terrible” Christmas presents.

This video is getting huge attention this week, not for the awful gifts, but for the sweet gratitude the cute British kids show their father despite them.

"I was really proud," Cocker told the MailOnline of his kids’ reaction. “It was a cheeky prank on my part and I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. It was pure childhood innocence at its best.”

"It made me go a bit misty eyed if I’m honest," he added. “Fortunately Connie had an onion so I could just blame any watery eyes on that!”

(Not all “terrible” presents went over as well. Kimmel, the mastermind behind “I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy,” is great at making kids cry.)

Now 6 and 5, Louie and Connie won’t be receiving gifts from the produce aisle this Christmas.

Connie, like many children, is obsessed with Frozen so I’ve put in a request with Santa’s elves to work extra hard on some of those toys,” Cocker said.

"Louie is hoping Santa can add to his Hot Wheels and Lego Star Wars collections. They’ve sent their letters to the North Pole so hopefully St. Nick will come up trumps again!"
