Apparently he meant grow them instead. The famous crime dog actor John Morales has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for drug and weapon offences.

If you don’t remember this crime-fighting fido, McGruff was a cartoon hound dog used mostly in the 80s and 90s to raise crime awareness among children through television ads, songs, commercials and booklets from the National Crime Prevention Council.

After being pulled over for speeding in 2011, police found blueprints for two indoor grow-ops in Morales’ car. Police dogs then sniffed out marijuana seeds in his trunk. Maybe McGruff the Crime Dog says it’s important to prepare for a small war, especially if you’re growing that much marijuana.

McGruff was always an advocate for the war on crime. Children recognized him as an avid crime fighter, coining the famous McGruff phrase, “Take a bite out of crime.

It’s pretty ironic that he’s the one doing time in the doghouse now.
