Patrick Brazeau, Justin Trudeau strip down for boxing match weigh-in

The Senator and the MP prepare for their charity match, Fight for the Cure 2012

After weeks of trash talking, Liberal MP Justin Trudeau and Tory Senator Patrick Brazeau will meet in the ring for their charity fight this Saturday. But first the two had to weigh in.

And while the two weighed in only three pounds apart (Brazeau at 183 pounds and Trudeau at 180 pounds), it was the way they weighed in that had many people talking. Both stripped down, with Trudeau donning boxing shorts and Brazeau donning a Speedo and headband to get on the scale at The Aulde Dubliner pub in Ottawa.

They both flexed on the scale showing their biceps and then, as all prizefighters do, put their dukes up standing close together.

Then the face-to-face verbal sparring began. Brazeau referenced Trudeau's father wanting to take away rights, saying "I'm going to give you so many rights you won't even believe it." And the crowd went crazy chanting Brazeau.

But Trudeau shot back saying, "I'm here to beat him with my mind, my heart and a lot of length."

Even though Brazeau slightly outweighs Trudeau, Trudeau is four inches taller at 6'2" and therefore has an advantage because of his longer reach.

Boxing analyst and member of the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame Spider Jones said he favours Trudeau for this exact reason, which allows him to have sharp, quick left jobs, fired from a distance.

"One of the most difficult things about boxing is slipping a left jab," said Jones to the National Post. "That left jab comes out of there and it can sting. I'd be hitting that guy [Brazeau] in the nose every chance I had."

Trudeau and Brazeau are fighting in a match called Fight for the Cure 2012, which is an annual fundraising initiative for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. The goal of the sold-out event is to raise $200,000.

The two will go at each other for three two-minute rounds at the Hampton Inn convention Centre in Ottawa. The battle will be broadcast live on the Sun News Network.
