Prank gives Macy’s customers free groceries

Online trickster Andrew Hales has posed as Macklemore to trick concert goers and littered in public as a social experiment, but this week, he uploaded a video with heart.

Hales went to Macy's for a video sponsored by GungHo and arranged for families to receive a delightful surprise as they pulled out their wallets to pay for large Thanksgiving weekend orders: the food would be free.

"You pay nothing. Not a dime, not a penny," the clerk tells one woman.

"You made my year," she responds.

The lucky customers were incredulous after hearing they wouldn't have to pay for their groceries; they became teary-eyed, told the clerk to shut up, or simply said "no" over and over again.

The number of times the clerk had to reassure these people she wasn't joking, because that would be cruel, is surprising.

The video has more than 391,000 views on YouTube.

Helping those in financial need becomes a focus around the holidays as big turkey dinners and Christmas presents are out of reach for many. Non-profits in the U.S. are preparing to feed low-income families at events such as the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission's thanksgiving dinner, which could feed up to 4,000 people, according to CBS.
