Randy George Scott, YouTube speed demon surrenders to B.C. police

Police have finally caught up with B.C.'s notorious YouTube speed demon.

Randy George Scott turned himself in on Tuesday night after Saanich police issued a warrant for his arrest earlier this month.

"He came to the front counter and made an admission as to his identity," Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark told CBC.

Police said public tips were instrumental in forcing Scott's hand. He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Video footage of a motorcycle driver pushing the accelerator to nearly 300 km/h went viral in April, shocking viewers as the blue Yamaha blazed through traffic along Vancouver Island's TransCanada Highway.

A camera affixed to the bike captured the risky ride.

The stunt horrified traffic officers for its recklessness. Many expressed their relief that no one had been killed, while others blasted the driver for reflecting poorly on the motorcycle community.

Police managed to seize the bike a week after the video went up. They discovered it was registered to Scott's mother and that the uninsured, unlicensed man had 25 previous driving infractions.

After this, she may want to think twice about lending him the car keys, too.
