Sidewalk-driving woman ordered to wear ‘idiot’ sign as punishment

Ohio judge orders Shena Hardin to hold sign at intersection as punishment for dangerous driving

An Ohio judge handed down an interesting punishment that may just get the point across that people should not disobey school bus signs.

Court records show the Cleveland judge ordered 32-year-old Shena Hardin to stand at an intersection for two days next week holding a sign that reads, "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

A Cleveland school bus driver captured Hardin on video in September driving on the sidewalk to avoid stopping for the bus while it loaded and unloaded children. The driver's supervisors credit him for his quick thinking to film the woman.

"He really cars about his children and he took the extra step that this doesn't happen again," said Bus Manager Eric Taylor on the YouTube page.

Hardin will have to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days in addition to having her license suspended for 30 and paying $250 in court costs.

This isn't the first time we've see someone where a sign on a street corner as punishment. After a 13-year-old boy's mother caught him smoking marijuana, she forced him to walk around a busy intersection wearing a sign that read, "Smoked pot, got caught! Don't I look cool? Not!" On the back it reads "Learn from me, don't do drugs." The mother, April Mathison, said other punishments such as timeouts and taking things away weren't working.

A mother in January forced her son to wear a sign that read, "I lie, I steal, I sell drugs, I don't follow the law," after he had a number of run ins with the law.

And in April, a father forced his 8-year-old girl in Missouri to wear a sign that read, "I like to steal from others and then lie about it" after she was caught stealing from her teacher.

Maybe the public shaming will teach this sidewalk driver she should stop and wait the 30 seconds instead of pulling such a dangerous move.
