Skywritten joke over Los Angeles asks ‘How Do I Land?’

Skywriter writes 'how do I land' above Los Angeles

An American comedian has demonstrated the strange power of crowd-sourcing campaigns by raising nearly $7,000 to write silly jokes in the sky over Los Angeles and then turning the city's airspace into a comedic canvas.

Kurt Braunohler launched a Kickstarter campaign in January on the grounds that the world needs a little more crazy. A total of 183 people agreed with him enough to back the project, which proposed to hire a pilot who would spell out jokes in the sky, for no other reason than the momentary amusement of unsuspecting strangers.

"How great would it be to look up one day and there’s a message in the sky, for no other reason other than itself. It’s not trying to sell you anything, it’s not trying to tell you something. It’s just there," the campaign webpage says.

Great enough for a chuckle, I suspect, for those who looked up and spotted the words "How Do I Land?" floating above their heads.

Unfortunately, the letters were quickly blown away by high winds, Braunohler wrote on a photo posted to his Tumblr blog. He wrote the photo was a composite.

Braunohler's explanation for the gag was that a little absurdity can make the world just a little bit better.

Next up: Braunohler takes on stop signs.
