SUV goes airborne after launching off buckled highway

A Wisconsin woman stopped on a bridge to take a picture of a buckled highway with her cell phone when she caught a glimpse of something that looks like it is right out of an action flick.

As seen in the video, Theresa Reich captures a SUV going airborne after hitting a bump on the road below.

"You know, you don't normally see that stuff in real life," she said in the video.

"From the overpass we could see the big divots, but we'd stopped to take a picture of it because we'd seen a bunch of cars going over slowly, and scraping the underside of their cars," she said to ABC affiliate in Eau Claire, WQOW.

She told the station she was just trying to take a still picture and didn't realize the camera was rolling.

"By the time I had exited picture mode...people were already walking out and dialing," she said to the station. "We were pretty amazed that none of the oncoming traffic hit them too."

The two passengers in the SUV were taken to hospital with neck and back pains, but were able to walk away from the incident.

WQOW reports the pavement in the road buckled because of the heat and created the ramp large enough to launch the SUV.

According to the outlet, the highway has been repaired and reopened although it took road crews a few days to make the repairs.
