Most expensive homes for sale in Canada

One of the most expensive homes ever to sell in Toronto just sold for $17.5 million.

It's a 5,000-square-foot, eight bedroom, 11 bathroom stone castle located next to the Rosedale Golf and Country Club in the North Lawrence Park neighbourhood.

The house once owned by Steve Stavro was purchased by an unknown European buyer.

"It's easily the highest sale in Toronto for a long time," said agent Michelle Jalsevac in a Globe and Mail article. "There aren't too many that have ever sold for a higher price."

The individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, put down an offer ahead of local potential buyers.

But if you believe this mystery buyer snookered you, the good news is there are currently 56 homes or lots in Canada listed at more than $10 million and 11 on the market for more than the selling price of the Lawrence Park home.

Topping the list is a home that doesn't even exist yet, but is still priced at $39.9 million. The plans call for a 30,000-square-foot, 11 bedroom, eight-bath estate in West Vancouver on more than five acres of land.

It will have an infinity pool over looking English Bay, the Georgian Strait and Vancouver. On clear days, you can see Vancouver Island and the U.S. from the sundeck. It will have a 16-car garage, a 7,000-square-foot guest house and a 2,600-square-foot maid's quarters.

Topping the list of houses that can be seen in more than renderings is a giant, gated estate near Montreal.

For $27 million, the new owner will get a 41,000-square-foot, nine bedroom, nine bathroom waterfront mansion that comes with a wine cellar, a painting room, a golf room and three garages.

The most expensive home in Toronto, near The Bridle Path, is selling for $26.8 million.

It has seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a fish pond, theatre and a sports centre with a bowling alley, tennis court and pool.

For those with a lot of cars, the house also has an eight-car attached garage.

If you like watching the sun set into the Pacific, this $24.8 million West Vancouver house may catch your eye.

It's smaller than some other houses in its price range at just 7,724 square feet and only five bedrooms and bathrooms, but it has 350 feet of waterfront, a nanny suite and a three-car garage.

The final house is the sixth-most expensive property in Canada, although it has also not been built. For $23 million you could move into a 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, six-bathroom waterfront mansion in Whistler. It's not listed what special rooms will come with the house,  but it's in Whistler, so what else would you want to do other than ski. Construction is expected to finish next year.
