Randy California tarantulas out in force for mating season 2013

If you're not too fond of spiders, or if they downright terrify you, this might be a good time to stay away from the San Francisco Bay area, as a multitude of horny male tarantulas are scurrying out of their burrows in search of love.

Spotting a tarantula throughout most of the year is pretty uncommon, as they stay in their burrows and out of sight. However, this is the start of the tarantula mating season in the hills surround the San Francisco Bay area, and with the warm weather, the ground will literally be crawling with randy male spiders out looking for "eight-legged love," as Al Wolf, director of the Sonoma County Reptile Rescue told CBS News.

Tarantulas are pretty scary-looking, and they do pack some serious fangs (with a bite that can be painful), but species in the United States aren't aggressive towards people, even when they're horny. Still, seeing the ground covered with the creepy-crawlies, and with the disturbing possibility of walking though the male tarantulas' 'sperm webs', it's probably best to just avoid the area until the first rains of winter roll in.
